Five killed, 15 injured following gas explosion in a residential building in Karachi

Karachi: At least five people were killed and 15 others wounded in an explosion in a four-story building opposite the University of Karachi Maskan Gate in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Pakistan’s media announced.

Rescue and rescue activities are taking place at the blast site. Footage and visuals on Twitter showed how the infrastructure of the building had been destroyed.

The blast is believed to have occurred on the second floor of the house, the windows of the surrounding buildings and some of the vehicles were also destroyed, the Dawn reported citing eye-witnesses. Although the nature of the explosion has not yet been determined, the police have confirmed it appears to be a cylinder explosion. The bomb disposal squad will check the cause of the blast.

A day earlier, five people were injured when a bomb exploded at the entrance to the bus terminal near Sheerin Jinnah Colony.

Several users on Twitter posted videos showing the damage to the building and the wounded being taken to the hospital.

The explosion in Karachi comes at a time when the city has become a hotbed of rebellion against the Imran Khan government by a united front of opposition parties.

Almost all police officers in Sindh Police have applied for leave in protest against the humiliation of Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mehr during the arrest of PML-N chief Safdar Awan.

In the midnight drama that unfolded in Pakistan almost all of Sindh ‘s senior police forces, including three additional IGs, 25 DIGs, 30 SSPs and hundreds of SPs, DSPs and SHOs across Sindh, applied for leave as a protest against the “resentment and heartache caused to all ranks of the force” by the unfortunate incident of October 18-19. The incident sent shockwaves to the top army brass with Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa himself and ordered an investigation into the ‘Karachi incident.’
